How To Slip Knot
Before learning the different stitches, we need to know about the slip knot, which is a movable node formed by the crossing of loops. It is the starting point of the whole crochet and is quick and easy, so let's learn how to make a perfect slip knot.
Step by Step with You
Index Finger Loop Technique
- Pick up the yarn, reserving 6-7 inches of length, and wrap the yarn around your left index finger twice, forming A and B two loops
- Pinch the end of the yarn with your middle finger and thumb and place the yarn from loop A to the right side of B.
- Pass the yarn at loop B through the tip of your index finger
- pull the yarn tail to close the loop.
Flip Technique
- Make a loop of yarn on the tabletop
- Take the intersection formed by the yarns and fold it downward
- Get a shape that looks like a pretzel
- Pick up the yarn pressed underneath with a crochet hook and pull the loop tightly.
Pretzel Technique
- The pretzel technique is somewhat similar to the flip technique.
- Right hand yarn is wound into a loop at the top.
- Two intersections are formed at the back of the ring
- Rotate it at an angle to resemble a pretzel.
- Pick up the yarn pressed underneath to form a slipknot.
Slip Knot
You have completed the first step of crocheting.
- Whichever way you choose to tie a slipknot, you'll end up with one of these loops.
- Now, there are two terms we need to know; the end that connects the yarn is called the working yarn and the other end is called the yarn tail.
- These two terms come up in many crochet tutorials.
NoteThere are also many ways to tie a slipknot, so just choose your favorite. Remember to keep 6-7 inches of yarn tail each time you tie a knot.
